Why are stress relieving techniques even necessary in pre school? Has life become that complicated at such a young age?
Life gets hectic and we are always running this way and that. Even our kids live this way. This is why we all get so overwhelmed.
We have not been wise with our decisions and have allowed others to dictate much of what happens with our time. We have surrendered control of our lives.
I am sure that all of us have had that moment when one of the kids says “but I told you last week”. In our minds we try to replay everything that happened on the day in question, what did I do, where did we eat, what was I wearing, are all some of the ways we try to recollect our thoughts.
If we were to ask them what we were doing many times they would say that we were watching a screen. It is hard to admit but much of our quality and quantity time are spent there now.
Our kids are not as disengaged as we think. Their memory is actually quite good and they do remember it all. A promise to go to pick out craft supplies must be fulfilled when it was promised. Everything is conveniently remembered except those tedious things like picking up their room, washing dishes, and homework.
Sometimes they come back with an impressive memory!
Months ago Dixie and I were talking about makeup. She was enjoying putting some on one day and I asked why she wanted to use make up. She responded, to cover her blemishes.
“Why call them blemishes? Why not call them beauty marks?”
Yeah, I said that. Where did it come from and why who knows but it was said.
Mic dropped and I left the room.
I do enjoy a dramatic entrance and exit.
Now months later she reminded me of that comment. She feels more confident and comfortable in how God made her.
So many times we try to hide our past mistakes, our blemishes. We don’t understand that those blemishes are what make our story, My Story, even more beautiful.
No two stories are alike, and mine will never be repeated. That’s what makes mine so important. If I hide my story, with all of its blemishes no one will ever enjoy the unique beauty that lies within it.
We need to encourage our kids to not hide behind their mistakes and blemishes but to own them. They make their stories an even better read. More interesting, more believable, more enjoyable.
The beauty of their story is unmatched by the story of anyone else!
