Identity
I have noticed that the names oldest, youngest, and second daughter get the point across. However, they don’t roll off my tongue and are less than ideal in helping to describe them.
I also realized how terrible it is to be the middle of three children. I was the middle child, sandwiched in between sisters. I was thinking oldest shows position, youngest shows that special place only the baby has, but second, second is just a number.
Who wants to be a number? My hope would be that no one would want to be a number.
Even though remaining nameless is very helpful in protecting ourselves, it does not make reading any easier. So I have decided to use alternative names for my girls.
Today is all about meeting them. Now let me be clear with you that they chose their new names.
Oldest is now Crystal McBeauty, second is Dixie Ticonderoga, and youngest is Sparkle.
What’s in a name? What does it represent? It can tell others who we are, what to expect. It is in essence our calling card.
Here is what I have observed in their lives and who they are or appear to be to me.
When I think of crystal I think of something being crystal clear. Crystal McBeauty is just that. She will be very clear in her actions and words. What you see is what you get. McBeauty? Yes she is a beauty!
Dixie Ticonderoga is definitely my southern belle. Not only does she have the name, she has the accent as well. She has that southern charm, a little southern hospitality, and a whole lot of sass.
Sparkle is just that, a sparkle. Wherever she goes she is a light. She shines bright every single day. Bugs are drawn to the light and people are drawn to her.
A name means so much. It gives us an identity.
What identity do your kids have? Do you know who they are?
Each child is different, even if they have the same parent and are raised in the same house. We must invest time in finding out who they are, their likes, interests, personalities, etc.
So I ask you, who are your children?
What would there new name be?
