I’m gonna wipe your butt!!!

I know this doesn’t sound like something you want to read but please let me explain.

The other night we were playing a card game. A game I have spent countless hours on when there was no tech overseas over the past 20 years, Dutch Blitz. Obviously my daughters were at a huge disadvantage. My older daughter had learned how to play a couple days earlier so this night my second daughter was learning.

As the game got heated and she was getting lost in the fast paced, hand slapping, excitement she started to yell out different things. We all yell at times while playing. When I see someone putting down card after card I accuse them of cheating. Don’t judge me! If you like losing you shouldn’t be playing!

One of her first comments was, “Why would you want your kids to play this evil game?”

I said because it’s fun and I am winning.

Followed by, “I hate you and I hate this game!” and of course “This is a stupid game!”

But then the game took an unexpected turn, she started winning. That’s when she yelled out “I’m gonna wipe your butt!”

My oldest and I laughed so hard and for so long that obviously she won that hand.

We asked wipe my butt? Do you need a wet wipe?

She looked very puzzled at first until she started to think thru what she said. Whip your butt is clearly what she was looking for but when you have two languages bouncing around in your head and emotions and adrenaline take over our brains tend to short circuit.

Short circuiting brains are normal, we have to understand that we will have those moments when what comes out of our mouth only makes sense  in our heads. We need to learn to laugh together and work our way thru it. Don’t get upset. We need to understand that those words were not meant to be harmful, they were simply said in the heat of the moment.

Life is so much fun when you can laugh about it!!
